Basic goals - Increase awareness to build connections
S.T.E.A.M. City was founded to open up the world of S.T.E.A.M. to all learners, all ages, in communities where there may be limited access to opportunities on these areas.
Our big focus began with programming to help kids in underserved communities learn valuable skills through creative challenges within the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. We have realized that many students have parents or caregivers who don't understand the whole scope of STEAM and they often think ONLY super-smart kids with computers should participate.
We KNOW that STEAM is for everyone, so we include families. When parents and caregivers get inspired, it's good for everyone.
Whether we help you build a home computer or make your first batch of sourdough, S.T.E.A.M. is everywhere! We are always developing new opportunities, with the hope that we can build community engagement at all levels.
Why S.T.E.A.M. for kids?
S.T.E.A.M. education can open up opportunities for students in low income, low opportunity situations by helping open up pathways to higher education.
S.T.E.A.M. based industries continue to grow and the careers in related fields are constantly expanding.
S.T.E.A.M. based careers pay more on average than unrelated jobs.
S.T.E.A.M. projects are FUN, challenging and creative and help to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills in young learners.
